The Argentine Juan Martin del Potro has collected its second straight defeat in his comeback from injury, losing 6-3, 6-0 to Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, sixth-seeded in first round of the Open in Tokyo.

The Champion International U.S. 2009 had lost to Olivier Rochus at the Thailand Open last week, his first tournament after a break of eight months due to a wrist injury.

In other matches, Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver defeated Argentina’s Eduardo Schwank 6-4, 6-4 while Russian Dmitry Tursunov, seeded seventh, defeated Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 6 – 4.

Exempt from the first round, Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the favorite, comes into the scene Tuesday against Colombian Santiago Giraldo.

PostHeaderIcon Del Potro will not be the U.S. Open

Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro did not defend his title at the International Tennis United States, was not sufficiently recovered from surgery on his right wrist.

Del Potro has not played in the ATP tournament since the Australian Open in January because of the wrist injury.

The 21-year-old operated in May, was training for two weeks for the tournament in Flushing Meadows. Last year, there are signed his first Grand Slam triumph, beating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and Roger Federer in the final.

The right wrist Del Potro bother him since last year. In particular, it removed the second round at Shanghai in October, because of tendinitis in the wrist.

He lost the fourth round at Melbourne in January and has not played since. Del Potro is currently ninth in the world rankings, but it will slide because of his absence from the tournament in New York

In addition to the absence of del Potro and Serena Williams, three time winner in New York, the American stage of the Grand Slam will be without Justine Henin and No. 10 men, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The tournament begins Aug. 30.

PostHeaderIcon Davydenko crown a perfect week beating Del Potro

No. 7 in the ATP World Tour, Nikolay Davydenko, capped a perfect week after winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with his triumph 6-3, 6-4 win over Juan Martin del Potro at the O2 Arena in London.

Davydenko, who had been a finalist at last year’s edition in Shanghai to play Novak Djokovic, is the first Russian to win the tournament in its history (since 1970). His effort this week will be worth a check for U.S. $ 1,550,000 and will also snatch the No. 6 South African Airways ATP Rankings to Andy Roddick.
