Howe has won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings, and was known for his robust style on the ice.
Earlier in the day, the legendary running back for the Toronto Argonauts Mike ‘Pinball’ Clemons has crisscrossed the streets of a small Ontario village with the torch. He is currently the head coach and vice president of the team paraded the torch in North Buxton, south of Chatham.
Clemons said that the Olympic flame represents peace and `solidarity ‘and a passion that creates the best individuals.
North Buxton was once a refuge for African-Americans who were fleeing slavery, and Clemons has stressed this aspect after his historic race.
He said he was unable to express his thoughts on what it meant the possibility of carrying the Olympic torch in a country `which is known for its hospitality.”
The Olympic torch should visit 12 communities in the 55th day of the marathon. In the evening, Windsor, Matthew Charbonneau, whose brother was killed in combat in Afghanistan in September 2008, should take over and light the cauldron of the city.
