Demers became Senator
Two days after celebrating his 65th birthday, Mr Jacques Demers has received another gift. He was appointed Senator by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
“I was contacted for the first time July 13 by a person in the entourage of Prime Minister. This last I said I was one of the choice of Mr. Harper and he wanted to know if I were concerned. I said I’d be honored to hold this position. Mr. Harper I subsequently contacted a few days later “, said Demers.
Former Canadian driver will not be the first representative of the sporting world to access the Senate in Ottawa.

In addition to Jacques Demers, the Prime Minister announced the appointment of eight other Canadians. The new senators should make it possible to advance the legislation against crimes, important in the eyes of Stephen Harper, but are currently blocked in the Senate.
